What a sensor does
The sensor is the camera that watches the surface below the mouse. It takes thousands of snapshots every second and compares them to track movement. The quality of that tracking decides how truthful your cursor movement is.
The PAW3395 family
The Pixart PAW3395 is the flagship optical sensor for gaming mice in this generation. It supports up to 26,000 DPI, tracking speeds around 650 IPS and a low power draw. The PAW3395 SE is a trimmed version used in the R1 SE+, still far ahead of office sensors.
Which specs matter
DPI matters little beyond a number. What matters is tracking speed and consistency. If you swipe fast, a low IPS sensor can skip during fast flicks. Consistency matters on different surfaces and when the mouse lifts off and lands again.
